The Sanctum Depths

After their battle with the ghast, the figure of Sorath Omen, the last King of Tarkir rises from his prison. He questions the King's Hand as to why they're traveling through his tomb. The heirs keep their answer vague, but the fallen king seems to appreciate their desire to save others. He also thanks them for releasing him from the confines of the curse, even if he is still trapped down in this tomb. Via is able to use his signet ring and write a final confession for him, hoping to find some Tarkirian descendants who might be able to forgive the king and relinquish his curse. Afterwards, the King travels up the path the heirs came down, looking to reunite with his dragon above.

The group travels further into the sanctum depths, and after overcoming a wall of force ward, and a wall that Xanthe dismantles, they are able to enter the vault of the Sanctum Depths. With only a few scholars down here, Elim and Marik decide to take the lead to steal their items, with Cailynn using her Mask of Many Faces to try and aid them with distractions as needed.

Elim heads for the Severing Needle, finding that it has been moved from its stand. However, with the help of a nearby scholar, he is able to find the needle. Elim knocks the woman out, pockets the needle, and seems to head back to the party.

Meanwhile, Marik has less luck as the Dragon Lantern is locked behind three layers of glass. After failing to pick the locks, he takes notice of a woman acting suspiciously, and realizes she is waiting for Roquette's pirates. Marik is able to take the keys and knock her out, but not before the woman uses a sending stone to signal Roquette. Marik opens up two of the cases and smashes the last, triggering the alarm. As he makes his way back, he sees Roquette are her pirates coming.

Arriving back, the group quickly realizes that Elim hasn't joined them. With the pirates and sanctum guards coming, they must decide how to proceed.
