Act II: The Hunt for Shadows ยท Chapter 15
Session 45
By Blood and Broken Glass
The session opens back at Crown's Rest, with Rohavi Varason making a surprise visit to King Talon himself. He acknowledges hearing the recent struggles with Ederia finding a new treasurer, and humbly suggests himself for the position, listing out his numerous experiences and saying that it would be the second greatest honor of his life to receive the position. Talon questions him what the first would be before the scene fades away.
The battle breaks out between The King's Hand and the pirates. With Elim joining the fray from stealth, the heirs are quickly able to take advantage of the battle, with Xanthe landing a killing blow on Roquette. Retreating back the way they came as an automaton of the Sanctum Depths pursued them, they successfully escape as Via uses an item from the depths to seal their escape route behind them.
The King's Hand takes their rest and take watches to make sure they aren't being pursued. Xanthe speaks with Torwynn, questioning what he would do after their mission in Soleilae was complete, encouraging him to return to House Astralor and serve his Lady Paramount. Torwynn says that he wants to find a position for himself where he could serve the common folk who have no one to protect them: as a hedge knight perhaps. Torwynn also asks Xanthe about Marik, wondering if she felt he was worthy to be an Ederian Knight. She responds that she believes Marik has a good base to work with, even if he hasn't fully reached his potential yet.
The next morning, Via wakes up early and takes out the Severing Needle, hoping to use her magic to see the other possibilities the needle could be used for. She sees a vision where Xanthe is able to free herself from the connection with her Devil, rising against every challenge. However, Via soon finds a pair of eyes looking at her and speakign with her, eventually lashing out and warning her to use the needle before they can take it away from her.
The rest of the King's Hand wake up and get caught up. It's reaffirmed that Edwinn will use the needle on Via but only when he becomes fully rested, as the past several battles drained him of most of his stamina.
As they leave, Torwynn approaches Marik and offers to knight him, believing that he would be a worthy heir to the tenets of knighthood. Marik however refuses, though doesn't elaborate as to why. Torwynn does remind him that should Marik change his mind, he would happy to speak the oath with Marik and make him a knight.
Passing through the large chamber that previously house Sorath Omen's dragon, they find that the dragon has dug out of the cave and flown back out into the world, leaving the king pleased that his longtime friend and ally was free from their prison. He looks up at the sky, content for the first time in years.
With the crypt behind them, the King's Hand must decide where their paths will take them next, in their quest to stop the Cult of the Dragon's Triarchy.
