Act I: The Gathering Shadows ยท Chapter 27
Session 27
Visions
The session opens with Via opening letters from her friends: Poppy and Isadora. They each write of how they are on house arrest, denying any knowledge of the recent betrayals and attacks that took place at Sky Haven. Via also receives a mysterious third letter, later revealed to be Viktor who is still seemingly working for the benefit of the Heirs.
Via informs her siblings of what she learns, but they are not ultimately able to come to a clear conclusion about what they should do, though it is ultimately decided that they should learn all they can from the girls eventually.
Edwinn and Astrid speak with the council, questioning about how to proceed with their marriage reveal. Ultimately, it is decided that the first marriage will be undone, and they will be remarried under the blessing of the crown, effectively making Freya into a bastard, but providing at least a little break for his sisters before they are required to find their own marriage arrangements.
Via goes to see Xanthe, offering an apology for believing what Seraphina said about Xanthe. Xanthe acknowledges that the accusation hurt, but accepts the apology. Via vows to take her duties more seriously, and to not be fooled in the future.
Marik trains in his free time but is soon joined by Salara and the egg. They speak, with Marik believing that the dragon is gathering the last of its strength to break free from the egg. Marik and Salara reaffirm their desire to work together and see this through.
Via meets Master Divinor Lysandor Astralor, who speaks to Via and helps her to further her training with divination. He also speaks of a curse that has afflicted her family line, he believes is plaguing her. He promises to help her continue to hone her talents though, even offering her a new arcane focus to help channel her visions.
Cailynn meets with Gareth and others, celebrating her birthday with her loved ones from the Serpent's Grove, and receiving a gift from Talon.
Talon gifts Cailynn a kind poem about his love for her, and a flying broom that Cailynn loves. She shares it with her siblings, who each present their own gifts to Cailynn. The siblings bond, spending a rare moment of peace in their current chaotic lives.
The heirs eventually read through several of Talon's old journals. However, the main thing that sticks out to them is a story of Edwinn's mother, how they met, fell in love, and eventually came to have Edwinn. There is a mention in the story of how her magic was able to heal Talon though, leaving the heirs wondering if this was a gift that Edwinn could inherit and use.
Finally, Davian's trial is brought forward, with Gareth finding enough evidence to pursue a guilty verdict. Davian is brought in to defend himself. However, Cailynn detects his thoughts and is able to tell that Davian....is not Davian at all, and there are multiple voices in his head. Davian shapeshifts into a devil, speaking cryptically that Edwinn is still hiding secrets before magically causing the mutilated body of Davian to appear. The devil disappears as quickly as he arrived, leaving the heirs and the council staring at Davian's corpse, more confused than ever.
