Laid to Rest

The night of the massacre, Edwinn finds himself being spoken to by his gauntlet. It encourages him to go and slay Davian, directing him to where Davian is hiding and helping Edwinn move effortlessly through the shadows to avoid detection. Edwinn confronts Davian, killing him in brutal fashion before attempting to frame it as a cultist murder. Bishop Maellis does notice Edwinn on his way back, but he seems to give Edwinn no trouble before letting him go.

The next morning, Elendara's Promise is ready to depart, but it is delayed as Davian has not arrived. Garrett goes to check on him, bringing Davian back much to Edwinn's shock. On the ship, Davian calls a meeting of the Council and King's Hand, explaining that the Nornathi have declared a blood hunt on him, suggesting he fakes his own death to avoid their wrath. Davian says that the reason for this hunt is because he has begun uncovering connections with the High King and the King in Crimson. Edwinn challenges Davian, calling him a liar, but does not accuse Davian of targeting the King's family. Eventually, Davian is confined to his quarters until an investigation can be led.

Back at Crown's Rest, everyone sees the damage that has been done during the attack, but are also able to meet Raynere, who is still awake. Their happy reunion is dimmed by the massacre of the previous night, but he promises to aid Garrett and to continue to use his wisdom to aid the kingdom.

At the next council meeting, Gareth opens the meeting about Davian, allowing Edwinn to acknowledge the truth of his relationship with Astrid and Freya. Gareth says that an investigation will need to be held, as Davian has a right to defend himself. Other members of the council also point out the various political pitfalls that this situation has created, even suggesting that the rest of the heirs will need to be married off to please the Ederian Nobility.

During a break with the council, Xanthe and Cailynn discuss their position on marriage, with Cailynn saying that she will never marry someone that is not 100% her choice, with Xanthe reminding her that should she refuse, the requirement will fall upon herself and Via.

With the meeting picking back up, it is decided that Edwinn will announce the marriage and the child to the people, trying to remove some of the pressure that might be upon them by letting this secret remain. Meanwhile, Marik acknowledges the plan he and Talon created for telling the people the truth of his bonding with the Green Dragon. Along with that, Gareth promises to use other networks of spies outside of Davian's control to look into the various leads the King's Hand gained over the past month. With that, the King's Hand takes the time to rest and prepare themselves before their next mission is officially decided.
