House Astralor
House Astralor suits people who read the appendix and want to know why the thing works, not merely that it does. You carry the quiet conviction that understanding something is the only honest way to be trusted with it — and the less comfortable one that not everybody should be permitted to.

About House Astralor
Nine hundred thousand people in towering spires, many of them literally floating. Outsiders imagine a free city of scholars; it is the most tightly licensed place in the kingdom, warded so thoroughly that ordinary casting is impossible without a permit and a designated zone. Until four hundred years ago they were vassals of House Emberlyn. When Emberlyn rebelled, Astralor's mage-hunters were instrumental in crushing them, and Astralor came out independent, elevated, and holding the ryanite. Their official position is that there are no tensions.
