Act I: The Gathering Shadows ยท Chapter 9
Session 9
Homecoming
October 2nd, 1103 A.R.
The King's Hand arrive at Seahaven, the port city of their ancestral home Skyhaven. Upon arriving, their court herald introduces every sibling with new titles and achievements to the excited crowd. The heirs are soon approached by the Steward of Sky Haven, Mary Anne Blackthorne, a woman that was pretty much a grandmother to all of the children growing up. She is accompanied by a Zharaaki man, Bjorn, the same man that delivered a young Cailynn to Talon's court after Cailynn's mother passed away.
The heirs spend time lightly catching up with Mary Anne before moving on to Skyhaven itself. They are informed of some repairs that need to be done around the hold, and soon organize how to spend their money for the festival along with making sure the repairs take place.
Cailynn excuses herself to go meet up with Bjorn. He meets her outside of the city where he shows her a statue dedicated to the Serpent God that Talon once built. Bjorn opens up about the visions that Cailynn's mother once had, speaking of an evil guardian rising from its slumber. Bjorn expresses his desire to become the new sentinel and enter the festival, which Cailynn encourages.
When Cailynn returns, each heir returns to their old rooms, finding memories and mementos from their time as children, each one reflecting on how much they've all changed. Marik takes this opportunity to go speak with Edwinn, apologizing for his outburst the other day and offering Edwinn the only help he believes he can provide, a letter addressed to Sharn Veltaris, believing that she can be of help protecting Edwinn's family. Edwinn thanks Marik and agrees to bring it up with all the siblings tomorrow.
The next day, Via awakens after a dream of following a serpent, and checks in with Cailynn. At the same time, Cailynn opens up a mysterious passage in her room. The heirs agree to investigate, but after traveling inside they awaken some constructs that attack. They stand to fight, trapped together.
Meanwhile, in Faithspire, several priests surrounded their Lady Paramount who is going through the middle of a holy ritual. Several of the priests discuss recent events, focusing mainly on the heirs and the King's Hand. However, before they can discuss more, the Lady Paramount seems to utter a prophecy. She says:
"In the shadow of the waning sun, Where the earth trembles and the seas churn, An emerald dragon shall come to the kingdom, To choose the hand that wields both strength and sorrow.
The one chosen by ancient blood shall command the skies, A shield to the weak, a scourge to the unworthy. Through fire and frost, they will guide the realm, To stave off the tide of ice, cold as the grave, And secure the throne that fate has promised."
Lady Irredesca falls to the ground, the High Solar calling her prophecy an instant of blasphemy and an improper prophecy. He speaks of how dragons were a scourge on the land and would never be a part of Ederia's future. Lady Irredesca demands the prophecy be written down despite High Lord Solar's protests. He commands his fighters to take her, but several of the priests create a barrier around the Lady Paramount, initiating a tense standoff.
