Act II: The Hunt for Shadows ยท Chapter 19
Session 49
Grief Gnaws Away
The heirs approach the scorched sepulcher and find the remains of a camp outside, carrying one of the recognizable medallions of the culty. They head inside cautiously but are soon ambushed by various ghosts and spirits. After a fight, the heirs head deeper into the labyrinth.
Using a journal they found from a dead cultist, they are able to find a nearby camp of cultists. After a battle, they emerge victorious and keep one alive for questioning. They learn that there are more cultists currently working on traveling down a side path in the dungeon, as they were unable to break the seals that blocked the main entrance. They also learn that the warrior who wields Dragon's Bane has been summoned, and will use the sword to destroy the seals as he had done at Zepharos' tower. Determined to more forward, the heirs decide to rest before making another push forward.
During their rest, Thorn approaches Marik and opens up about seeing some sort of vision or memories. The two meditate together, and see a vision of a rider and dragon flying over an unfamiliar landscape. They also see the dragon resting near their rider, as she takes her final breath, with grief overcoming the dragon. When the vision ends, Marik sees that Thorn took on the colors of the dragon from the memories, and also hypothesizes that the lingering magic of grief was affecting this area.
Moving on from their rest, they attempt to take the path the cult made but find themselves blocked by several glyphs of warding. Not wanting to take the risk, they try for the main path in the hopes they can break the seals the cult couldn't. However, as they approach the seal, several burned corpses rise up from the ground, and a fight ensues.
