Act I: The Gathering Shadows ยท Chapter 19

Session 19

Tests & Trials

The session opens with a slight flashback, to Via meeting her uncle officially. The two speak and have a warm and inviting conversation on the nature of family and catching up after many lost years. Via, who was concerned about meeting her mother's family, is quick to embrace him and is happy that she's finally had the opportunity to meet him in person. The two potentially discussing having a family dinner down the line.

As the heirs take some time to themselves, Xanthe is updated on the state of Seahaven and of a recent murder some weeks ago where a man was killed in a particularly brutal way. Cailynn and Via are working on a stall to help local residents and help the people, with Cailynn providing some trinkets and salves, while Via uses her ability to read fortunes. Before they leave, they are left with a coin that allows a favor from the Church of Unity. However, neither of them can remember where the coin came from or who gave it to them.

Edwinn is shopping for a present for Astrid when he is jumped by one of the thugs that previously threatened him when he was last in Seahaven. Edwinn non-lethally deals with the threat, but is unable to stop word from reaching the other heirs, and eventually, Talon. The King is rather upset as he can sense that Edwinn is not telling the whole truth about his relationship with this individual, as Edwinn insists that there are more pressing matters they should deal with. Talon increases the amount of guards surrounding each heir before departing.

At a party thrown for the Sentinel Festival, Via and Cailynn speak with Archmage Morgana, detailing their knowledge of the ritual and the book they acquired from Arcanveil. Morgana is still concerned and mentions bringing in a professional to help. Cailynn senses something more, and Morgana acknowledges that the dragonborn used to be a necromancer known as Cassius who did some questionable things. She trusts him though and arranges the meeting.
