Act I: The Gathering Shadows ยท Chapter 13

Session 13

Beneath Sacred Ground

The session opens with the King's Hand being attacked and killed by Elandor. However, Via suddenly wakes up, the whole thing being a dream...or perhaps a vision? She speaks to Stillwater and requests guards to go and see the heirs, but is met by Captain Dawnguard instead. The other siblings join up, but Via is required to go and speak to High Solar Derek. The High Solar was surprisingly gentle with Via though, opening up about his own experience with family troubles as his father supported the Kythons during the calamity. He asks Via if Talon or her siblings ever did fall to corruption, would she have the strength to stand against them?

Via is released and the heirs continue their journey to get the approval from the other churches to halt Derek's investigation. They head to the Church of the Unbroken to speak with Aridan Stokeworth and receive their signature for the writ. However, Aridan acknowledges that they cannot give their permission as Elandor was the only signature they had received at this point, and they didn't want to work with The Cleansing Tempest in this matter. They however said they would sign should the heirs receive support from the other churches.

At the church of Unity the heirs speak with High Arbiter Caedus Lutharn. The conversation goes well and the arbiter seems to be on their side and open to their arguments. He even suggests they sign a second writ, allowing them to make a more....stealthy attempt at saving the Lady Paramount should it prove necessary. With the two writs signed, the King's Hand receives the signatures from Unbroken and the church of the Broken Sun.

With everything they need, the heirs return to the rectory to speak with the High Solar. He receives the writ but informs them the investigation has ended, and the Lady Paramount will be executed the following day.

The Heirs use the writ to secure an audience, seeing the injuries on the Lady Paramount and speaking with her. They deduce that in her quest to learn more about her vision, she received an artifact connected to the Dragon's Triarchy without realizing what it was. This piece of evidence was what Derek was using to justify her execution.
